The main cause of the failure of Liverpool is because the previous owner didn't not invest in the players. Their transfer budget was diminishing every year because they use the money generated from revenue and sales of players to serve expensive interest payment. People always said Benitez signed a lot of player and used a lot of money to buy players. But you should look at net spending rather than gross spending. During 6 years Benitez reign, Benitez was making money on player transfer. But everytime when he wanted to buy players, the owner forced him to sell before he bought. Not only that, the previous owner used part of the money made from players sales to repay debt. I am not saying he make every decision correct. But which great managers don't make mistake. Often newspapers don't tell the whole story. People just like at the surface of the matters to justify things.
