Not much experience on the old one as I only got the old 25G, what I can see is:

[*]All thruster are now movable (ball joints)[*]More engraved panel lines[*]More painted white stripes[*]Crotch armor does not required to be removed in fighter mode[*]Parts are not as glossy as the old one[*]Better proportion in all mode

It is not a cover on the new version, you remove the standard and replace with the armored one, and they are about the same size, so no need to remove during transformation.
