                MATILDA Sentient Mech Queen
Created with the most advanced A.I. developed in human history,MATILDA's purpose was to control other autonomous machines to keepthem functioning efficiently as a unit. She soon learned we were nolonger necessary for her survival and turned on us. Few humans remain;MATILDA's mechs are unstoppable.
This is my largest mech to date. I'm moving to California for workthis summer and not bringing my lego stash so this will probably bethe last upload until September or so. Again I apologize for the lazyediting, I fiddled with it for far too long and eventually justhalf-assed it on the last several pics. I hope you like it!

Explorations in Bionicle Vol. 1

Last week I was taken to task by a reader who complained that this blog-hole is prejudiced against Bionicle builders, using incendiary rhetoric like “nip around” and “Mocists”. Although I was quick to dismiss this reader as a disenfranchised malcontent, after a little research I’m forced to agree that we can do a little better in our “Bionicle Fandom” coverage. With that in mind I present the first installment in an ongoing exploration of the wonderful and thriving world of Bionicle.

First you are invited to gaze in wonder at this overlooked gem from 2011 courtesy of Patrick Biggs (Dviddy), simply titled “Catwoman“.

Next its time to remedy the problem of Dylan Mievis (Sparkytron) never before gracing the ivy-covered halls of TBB.  This is “Eris“.

And finally, to break up this sausage festival, we close this week’s exploration with an offering from Breann Sledge (Archinto).

R-Round Up
Being almost at the half way point of the R-Type & Beyond starfighter build challenge, we have seen a very nice assortment of brilliant builds of all sizes shapes and colours.
Here is a quick round up of my favourites so far.
Shannon Ocean brings his retro space style with this rockin’ entry.

Pasukaru76 has been churning out a tonne of builds in both micro and minifig scales, but this colourful addition has to be one of favourites.

Mike Yoder blows it out of the water with this behemoth.

Pierre E Fieschi created perhaps the most colourful entry so far, and it works so well on all levels.

HatRabies has been keeping pace with Pascal on the number of submissions with a continuing variation of a micro R-Type…with each post they get better and better.

There are plenty more brilliant creations, so please head on over to the submission thread if you haven’t already checked it out.
You still have a little over 2 weeks to join in on the fun…hopefully by that time I will have mine done too.

Stormbringer

I think it’s rather trite to say that something “doesn’t look like LEGO” — it’s a lazy statement and plays into the non-building public’s perception that “LEGO these days” is “overly specialized” and “doesn’t foster creativity.” Also, we try not to feature the same model twice.

Nonsense, all of it. Just look at this amazing dragon built by aurore&aube.

Lego StarCraft Marine: “GO GO GO!”
Mark Stafford (lego_nabii) has just posted a photo of an awesome model, built by one of his fellow designers at LEGO, Luis Castenada.  Luis built an awesome custom Marine from StarCraft.  Obviously, the head is not an authentic Lego piece, and a few parts have been painted, but that doesn’t stop this from being amazing.  Here’s hoping that LEGO will wrest the license away from Mega, and release some sets like this.

A lazy Saturday morning with chiukeung’s LEGO NES
CK Tsang (chiukeung) continues his fantastic series of miniaturized retro hardware with a LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System, complete with Light Gun for playing Duck Hunt.

E.T. Phone Home
I’m guessing you recognize this iconic scene from an essential 80s film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
There are few images that can make you feel nostalgic quite like a bright moon and a boy on his bike. Noah McClung (Glory_Forever) has rendered it beautifully in brick.

Lego Starcraft Mutalisk
Ever since the mutalisk buff, in Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, this Zerg flyer has been massively popular in games. It looks like Mike Nieves (retinence) got the message and made his own to join his Zerg swarm. You can see more photos on Imgur.

The wa F8 Lanius is One Sweet Mecha

Flickr user legorobo:waka has posted his wa F8 Lanius, a truly sweet mecha that hits all the right notes.  It has classic anime styling, great details, articulation and best of all, houses a minfig pilot. In particular, the details I like best are the feet/ landing gear, the hands and guns, and the classic Japanese style mecha head with the Uruk-Hai sword on the back. The way he was able to tuck the pilot into the chest cavity without it looking too bulky, or sacrificing the styling detail is pretty sweet too.

Massive Lego model of the Normandy SR2 from Mass Effect
Ben Caukins spent the past 7 months constructing the Normandy SR2 from Mass Effect, proving yet again that he’s not afraid to build large curved ships. The ship measures almost 4 feet long with a wingspan of 19 inches. It will be displayed at Brickworld this weekend in Chicago. You can check out work-in-progress pictures on Flickr.
