They are talking about Hasbro's production management of Marvels products. But how come only focus on cost/quality management of Marvels Product? Seems not fair and biased.
In addition, your example of Maxim is not appropriate (You can complaint the food because you had eaten but you can't complaint the toy after you opened it besides its parts make your health and life in danger). We have to look at the whole business of the company. Hasbro produces a portfolio of toys. Some earn big money and some lose. More products in the portfolio can share the risk of lose money and earn average rate of income. Maybe, their focus in some good selling toys so they cut cost from Marvel in order to maximize the profit. For example, production of baby toys are in high cost due to safety concern for babies. The production management of an product is not only determined by the managers but also the customers, board of directors, license owners, material suppliers, manufacturer...
As I viewed, hasbro try to make the retail price of the Marvel Toys lower. MU is at aver. less than one fish. ML is at aver 1.7 fish. You may see Tomy Takara transformers are in aver 2 fish and Bandai Robot Spirit and figma are over at least 2.5 fish regardless the quality. Hasbro focus on general customers such as the parents rather than "professional figures players/collectors". They buy an iron man after watched the Movie. Parents will think buying a one fish toy is worth for shut their kids mouths.
In addition, they try to produce more characters of Marvels as they can in order to satisfy the collection of the collectors. It is understand that some are good and some are really bad quality. It is very difficult to cater all fans of every characters.
I collect all 3.75 and 6 inches Iron man, GI JOE Snake eyes and Storm shadow, Starwars Boba fett and Jango fett and other Dark Lord Sith of Hasbro. I can see the variation of the quality but I do not really care about it.

SPAWN and NECA for not more than 30 figures
and some other minor collections
I buy toys everyday online and in local toy shops
