Brother, if you are interested in it, I suggest you wait for the Jolly Rogers Final Cruise #103, same price but more famous plane I think (though not the CAG plane).Check it out at Century Wings ...

Oh! still another one???
I saw #100 has a phonex on her left wing pylon. Isn't it the usual place for a sparrow?????

I see.According to CHings, it may be due to the relatively small market (demand) of Macross products.:64:

According to the law of supply and demand
A smaller demand should lead to a lower price..........................:Q

According to their original design, F-14 can carry as many as 6 Phoenix!4 at belly pallets and 2 on wing pylons (1 left, 1 right). As you know, Phoenix is very very heavy (and expensive of course). After patrol mission, if no missiles are launched (not uncommon), F-14 will need to carry these 6 heavy and expensive missiles back to the carrier. It is an extremely dangerous act!As you know, landing on carrier on a rough sea is one of the most dangerous missions of Navy pilots!Pilots will try to reduce their planes' weight (e.g. throwing away unused bombs (especially during war time) and fuel into the sea!) before their landing to minimise the risk of crash and possible damage to the carrier. Therefore, F-14 seldomly occupies all its pylons/pallets with 6 Phoenix.Instead, missiles of varied range (Sparrow and Sidewinders) were carried in order to cope with all possible situations in the sky.

The setting of the Final Cruise F-14B #100 is indeed for the "Bombcat" mission. As I mentioned before, at their latter part of service, F-14 has been modified to carry laser-guided bombs (at belly pallets) as well.(You should also spot the LANTERN port on the right wing pylon.)That said, it continued to carry 1 Phoenix and 2 Side-winders as well for "Fighter" mission just in case.:64:

You may be correct if the supply is constant. But I am afraid that manufacturers will accordingly reduce their supply in view of the small market (sorry, I forget all the theories I learnt).Typical example is Beagle's Mospeada. It's sad to hear that Beagle will discontinue its production line for Mospeada.:42:

Very detail explanation!!!!
Thanks a lot 14 CHing:handshake:
Still something I want to clarify is that wasn't the Phoenix not very often used (nor useful, due to their relatively slow speed) after the end of the cold war, when the Soviet heavy bomber threat was not so pending anymore?

According to my reference, effectiveness of Phoenix has not been adequately proved. As you know, the powerful AWG-9 radar on F-14 can "lock" any targets from very far distance.Once "locked" by F-14, invader planes will normally choose to retreat. So, there's no need to launch Phoenix eventually at all.But I have never heard comment about low speed of Phoenix.:?   On the contrary, I know that pilots often find the medium-range Sparrow not as reliable as the short-range Sidewinders!:64:

I read that the phoenix is slower than the short range sidewinders and medium range sparrow in a forum......
But I guess I was missled:cool:

After some research on the web, I found that the phoenix is actually faster (~mach 4) than the sidewinders (~mach 2.5):49: :49:
