As far as I know, RDj only signed up for 6 movies(include the one in Hulk) so he already did IM1~3, Avengers and hulk which is 5 in total, so avengers2 shld be the last one. He mentioned that he is getting old and would like to do something else. But of coz I think RDJ is like a Tony stark in reality so will be very difficult to replace him with another actor if he decide not to renew it. (at least I can't think of any one now)

There was rumor saying he has not sign on to avengers 2 yet. Hopefully that is not true and I really hope he will at least appear on avengers 2 and do one more Iron Man movie. As you said, to current viewers, RDJ=Tony Starks=Iron Man, it will be hard to accept anyone else replace him.
I guess different audiences view things differently. I never read marvel comics and so probably that is the reason it is easier for me to accept the Mandarin twist and I am just a casual viewers who likes Iron Man figures and it never really bothers me if the movie does not make sense completely.
